Consumers are being warned not to eat cheeses made by a Cayuga County dairy that may be contaminated with Listeria, a germ that can cause food poisoning.
Consumers should not eat “Old Fashioned Raw Milk Monterey Jack,” “Horseradish Monterey Jack” and “Chipotle Adobo Monterey Jack” cheeses made by Ripley Dairy LLC of Moravia, according to the state Agriculture Department.
No illnesses associated with the products have been reported.
The products are in a plastic skrink-wrapped package displaying the plant number 36-3108 with a code, “Mfg. Date 5/17/17.” The manufacturer name listed on the package is Hillcrest Dairy.
The manufacturer has voluntarily recalled the product.
Listeria can cause Listeriosis, a disease that can cause flu-like symptoms in healthy individuals. The disease can cause meningitis and blood poisoning in people with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis can also cause still births.
