Cycling Against the Clock for Breast Cancer Care

For the fourth year in a row our London office took part in Tour de Law, a charity event run by Breast Cancer Care. Tour de Law is the largest legal race in the UK and brings together top law firms to race against each other over 1000km, the distance from London to Paris and back again.

Sadly, breast cancer is a disease that affects many of us at some point in our lives, whether personally or through family and friends, and with many of us reflecting on personal experiences, the event felt very close to our hearts. Therefore it was a real team effort – our New York office got involved too, raising money through a ‘Casual for a Cause’ day for Breast Cancer Care.  Tour de Law raised over £60,000 for the charity – an amazing achievement, and I feel proud to be part of the Proskauer team supporting the cause.

During the event we transformed the London office library into the perfect motivational area to cycle, decorated with British and French flags and speakers playing requested songs from Spotify. Appropriately, the most popular workout playlist was called ‘You can do it!’.

To help reach our fundraising target we also held a bake sale. We had some really creative entries including pink iced gingerbread P’s (for Proskauer or for Polly, the baker, we couldn’t decide), Davina’s Fairy cakes and the most amazing Maltesers brownies, which disappeared quickly! We had a drop-in tea and cake afternoon, providing a welcome break from our desks.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a race without winners, so in order to celebrate their efforts, prizes were awarded to legal secretary Natasha Wilson (farthest distance in 15 minutes for women); corporate associate James May (farthest distance in 15 minutes for men); corporate associate Antti Leppanen (highest number of slots in a row) and facilities supervisor Wayne Horton (farthest distance accumulated overall).

A highlight of the event was the day when a Breast Cancer Care volunteer, who had recently fought and survived breast cancer, came to visit us. She supported our cyclists during her lunch break and her involvement and encouragement really put the event into perspective and made all of the cycling worth it!
