The House was expected to be out this week. However, lawmakers are staying put in Washington as they continue to wait for their congressional leaders to reach a deal to reopen the government.
Senate Republicans and Democrats are still in negotiations over a continuing resolution (“CR”), floated by moderates yesterday, that would fund the government through Feb. 8. The proposed CR comes with a verbal commitment from Senate GOP leadership to resolve the DACA issue in a separate bill before the Feb. 8 deadline.
Last night, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell attempted to hold a cloture vote at 10 p.m. on the Feb. 8 CR, but Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer objected to the request.
The Senate is set to convene today at 10 a.m. with a cloture vote on the proposed CR at noon. Fate of the CR remains uncertain as Senate Republican and Democratic leaders have yet to shake on the deal.
This Tuesday, the Senate Banking Committee will hold a hearing on the nominations of Jelena McWilliams to be chairwoman of the FDIC Board of Directors; Marvin Goodfriend to be a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors; and Thomas Workman to be a member of the FSOC.
