We’re very happy to announce the Privacy Law Referencer – a free online manual on Indian Privacy Law, updated and accessible everywhere.

The Referencer currently includes:

  • Every single section (full text) of the Draft Personal Data Protection Bill, cross-referenced against the recommendations of the Expert Committee on Data Protection.
  • Every single recommendation of the Expert Committee on Data Protection (full text), cross-referenced against the relevant sections of the Draft Bill.
  • Extracted summaries from the operative section of the Supreme Court’s judgment in the Aadhaar case.
  • Downloadable full-text copies of:
    • The Draft Personal Data Protection Bill;
    • The Report of the Expert Committee on Data Protection;
    • The Right to Privacy judgment; and
    • The Aadhaar judgment (link only)

And yes, it’s free. No strings attached.

Here’s how you can use the Referencer:

• Click this link.
• That’s it!

Here’s a video that explains how the Referencer works:

A few things to keep in mind:

  • You can access the Referencer online anywhere, including on your mobile devices, and we will constantly update the Referencer as new materials emerge.
  • We think of the Referencer as a collaborative project – while we can’t give everyone edit rights for obvious reasons, we invite your comments, suggestions, requests, heck, even your demands – what would you like to see changed, added, or improved on the Referencer? Tell us, and if we can, we’ll do it!
  • The Privacy Law Referencer is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. To view a copy of this license, visit http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/.
    • License details and attribution requirements appear in the ‘LICENSE AND COPYRIGHT’ tab on the Referencer.
    • Please, pay it forward – feel free to share the link to the Referencer (http://bit.ly/privacylawreferencer) with anyone you think might find it helpful!

Thank you, and we hope the Privacy Law Referencer is useful for you!
