Jordy Mercer, the veteran 32-year-old shortstop, has signed with Scott Boras of Boras Corporation.

Mercer is coming off a 2018 campaign in which he played in 117 games and slashed .251/.315/.381 for the Pirates, where he has spent his entire seven year career.

He was drafted in the third round (79th overall) of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Pirates out of Oklahoma State. For his time in Stillwater, he was not only the team’s starting shortstop but also the team’s closer. He even set the OSU record for saves. After making his big league debut with the Pirates in 2012, Mercer has held his own for the better part of seven seasons. To this point in his career, he has a .256 batting average, 55 home runs, and 277 RBI.

A free agent for the first time, Mercer’s signing with Boras signifies that he is ready to earn a solid paycheck with his next contract.
