This year’s National Home Infusion Association (NHIA) conference kicked off with the 2nd Annual Sterile Compounding Forum. The well-attended track provided an overview of the state of sterile compounding, insight into the most common citations confronting sterile compounders, considerations for compliance and risks relating to compounding, background on how states and the FDA are implementing rules and regulations, including those involved in the delivery of home infusion products.

Sterile Compounding Forum
Husch Blackwell’s Wakaba Tessier and Renee Zerbonia and ARJ Infusion Services’ Edie Gigot presented on “Assessing Your Risk and Liability in Compounding.” They guided the audience through the current landscape and common compliance concerns of compounding, including the areas of greatest risk and how to protect your business. Attendees also learned about how to respond to an FDA inspection, from onsite triage to handling requests for records and remediation.
Strategies for Influencing State Legislation and Rule Making
ARJ Infusion Services’ Andy Copeland and Tom Shaughnessy and Husch Blackwell’s Pete Enko and Kyle Gilster will discuss the importance of state legislative engagement and advocacy as well as provide an overview of practical considerations when evaluating legislative advocacy concerns. Presenters will review examples of how ARJ Infusion Services formulated and executed advocacy campaigns at both the state and federal levels. They will also share practical tools and concepts for monitoring state-wide and national legislative initiatives.
