NEW MAPS Capabilities. The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (“LARA”) announced the launch of two new communication capabilities in MAPS, available on July 18, 2019:
Clinician to Clinician Messaging–enables providers to send communications and share information about mutual patients in a secure fashion through an inbox attached to the provider’s MAPS account (similar to email). The inbox will be visible only to the communicating providers, and not to the providers’ registered delegates, other providers not involved in the communication, or MAPS support staff.
Care Notes–allows providers to add clinically relevant notes or information to a patient’s MAPS report, such as “the patient has a pain contract.” Unlike clinician messaging, other MAPS users and the MAPS support staff will have access to view care notes.
MAPS advises that both care notes and clinician messaging must be relevant to actual patients. A User Guide and a Quick Reference Sheet about these new features are available within each provider’s MAPS account in the Training section of menu options.
Both features will be available on July 18, 2019, through individual MAPS provider accounts, and LARA anticipates availability through providers’ Electronic Medical Record (“EMR”) or Pharmacy Dispensation System (“PDS”) in the next phase of implementation.
