Summer Recess
The House begins its summer recess next week, with the Senate set to be in session one more week before lawmakers return home. Both chambers are scheduled to return to Washington the second week of September.
Budget Deal Vote
Next week, the Senate will vote on the budget deal and to confirm the President’s nominees for Deputy Secretary of Defense and Ambassador to the United Nations, as well as a package of district court nominees.
Spending Levels
With a two-year budget deal expected to soon be in place, Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby (R-AL) said this week that he will set spending levels for the 12 FY20 appropriations bills during the August recess so that subcommittees can start marking up legislation when lawmakers return to Washington.
Lower Health Care Costs Act
Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA) will also move to bring S. 1895, the Lower Health Care Costs Act, to the floor.
