NJ Traffic Points – The Basics
The NJ traffic point system is a way for the Motor Vehicle Commission to regulate which drivers get to keep or lose their license. If you get too many points on your license, you will lose your driving privileges. A license suspension will affect all areas of your life.

How To Fight NJ Traffic Points
The State of New Jersey generates hundreds of millions of dollars each year through traffic violation fees & fines. Your insurance company will also increase your premium. In this way, you are paying at both ends.
The best way to fight back & save crazy money is through plea bargaining. Of course, you are allowed to represent yourself in NJ municipal court but it’s in your best interest to invest in a local attorney (for a small fee) and have him/her plea bargain for you. In addition to dealing with the stress of your first NJ court appearance., you don’t want to be stressed out when plea bargaining with the prosecutor.
Plea bargaining is similar to a flea market sales negotiation but with more dangers. In a flea market the seller wants 10 dollars & the buyer offers 2. After some back and forth, they both agree on $6- and the sale is made. If there’s no agreement, the buyer can walk away without any type of consequences.
NJ traffic point plea bargaining is similar in the sense that there is some “back & forth” between the parties but the driver (you) are on the hook for the tickets you are facing. You cannot just walk away from the negotiation. If you do, then you will face trial. At trial, you may lose every traffic ticket you’re facing & ending up with a license suspension.
Another danger in plea bargaining your own NJ traffic point cases is that you may make an “admission” that hurts your case. Prosecutors are lawyers & they will ask you questions during the plea negotiation. You may make an “admission” that destroys your case & your credibility. For example, you may admit to making a U-turn without realizing that you are admitting to it. Things can get tricky real fast. In this sense, you are at a disadvantage when you come up against the prosecutor.
The best way to fight back and save money is to have your own lawyer plea bargain on your behalf. If you are facing 5 tickets that carry a total of 10 points, your lawyer might get them all dismissed! If you try to do it on your own, you might have the same success.
