We are beyond excited to share that Sigourney Norman has joined the Paladin team as its first Community Manager! Sigourney brings a wealth of experience to the team, ranging from the legal departments of Salesforce and TIDAL, various practice areas at a law firm, and most recently facilitating partnerships at a public service organization.

We asked Sigourney a few questions to learn more about how her background has shaped her perspective on legal tech and access to justice, and what she’s most looking forward to at Paladin.

Sigourney, we’re thrilled to have you on the Paladin team! Tell us about your background.

My work has centered around policy, politics and non-profit work that builds more equity into society. During and following earning my J.D. I became fascinated with the intersection of technology and law and had the opportunity to work at in-house legal departments in the corporate tech space. I am excited to be at Paladin where justice work, technology, and the law all intersect to uplift and strengthen communities.

Why do you think innovation in the legal industry is important?

Historically, the legal industry has been more reactive to challenges in society than adaptive to the needs of the most vulnerable. Innovation empowers the legal industry to flip this narrative and address challenges swiftly and meaningfully.

What drew you to Paladin?

Paladin is unified in its mission to champion pro bono work and those who do that work. As evidenced in every level of the company — from the company values, to the team members, to the very meaning of the company name, i.e. to be a leading champion of a cause — Paladin is dedicated to its mission. This unity is unique, powerful and impactful.

Why is access to justice important to you?

Access to justice is a pillar in breaking down structural barriers within society. Legal assistance can be the difference that changes the course of an individual’s life, and when compounded and scaled, is the key to creating healthy, thriving communities. As someone who has had access to education and empowerment to overcome barriers in my own life, I am compelled to ensure other folks have access to the tools that break barriers in their lives.

What do you see as Paladin’s biggest opportunity within the justice space?

We are at a moment of awakening and social uplift of our body politic. Where there are challenges in creating equity and equality among us, Paladin has an essential role to play in leveraging pro bono work to fill those gaps and make a more just society.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I am so eager to form a relationship with our Legal Service Organization partners and find creative ways for the Paladin platform to honor their work through modalities of the platform and how we communicate about our Legal Service Organization partners to a broader audience. I truly am excited to be of service.

Which GIF best represents how you feel about pro bono innovation?
