2020 has been a year of adapting, readapting, and then adapting again in an effort to combat a global pandemic. Those in education have been hit particularly hard. Most educators and administrators have had to develop multiple contingency plans, often with little warning.
The Lancaster Bar Association is concerned about the impact these unprecedented times are having on educators and the increased responsibilities they have been taking on. Our teachers and administrators are putting themselves at risk daily to ensure the children of our community continue to get the education they need. Some, like Manheim Township counselor Alexandra Chitwood, have even lost their lives.
It is truly heroic.
For this reason, the Lancaster Bar Association and the Lancaster Law Foundation have come together with local attorneys to offer free Living Wills and Healthcare Power of Attorneys to local teachers and their spouses. It’s called the Classroom Heroes program.
This effort is very important to Russell, Krafft & Gruber. Attorneys Lindsay M. Schoeneberger and Nichole M. Baer are two of the local attorneys volunteering to help teachers get these vital documents. In a December 7th article from Lancaster Online, the Classroom Heroes program has already garnered significant interest with over 20 inquiries from teachers received in the short time since the program has been announced.
