Sheppard Mullin congratulates Seema Hingorani on her award of France’s Chevalier of the National Order of the Legion d’honneur. The Order of Légion d’Honneur is the highest order of merit for military and civil merits, established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte. Seema is the first Asian American recipient of this award.

Seema was recognized for her work in founding Girls Who Invest (“GWI”), a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the number of women in portfolio management and executive leadership in the asset management industry.

Currently, only 6% of the chief investment officers of the largest institutional U.S. money managers are women. Only 6% of senior leaders in private equity are women, 4% in real estate and 3% in hedge funds. Girls Who Invest’s mission is to change this and its vision is for 30% of the world’s investable capital to be managed by women by 2030. GWI accomplishes this through education, mentoring, internships, and a supportive community.

GWI recently celebrated its five year anniversary and has seen tremendous growth, passion, and continued excitement for its mission. With generous support from its partners, GWI has been able to reach more than 800 scholars through its programs.

Sheppard Mullin has been a pro bono legal advisor and partner to GWI since its founding and is proud to support this worthy organization.
