In the past week, more than 6,000 migrants have swum, waded, or paddled from Morocco to the Spanish port city of Ceuta, WaPo reports. Not familiar with Ceuta? Check out the map to the right. You’ll see that the city is on mainland Africa. It’s bordered by Morocco, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean.
More than 2,000 of the recent migrants have already been returned to Morocco. If you’re wondering how they managed that so quickly, Morocco and Spain apparently have an agreement that Moroccan citizens cannot seek asylum in Spain.
Spain’s prime minister has vowed to end this migrant “crisis” by “restor[ing] order to the city and its borders.”
