Proposed California Bill Would Give Minor League Baseball Players More Control Over Their Name, Image & Likeness

Baseball is back. I’ve been watching and listening to spring training games all week and one of the things I always enjoy about this part of the baseball season is seeing minor league players (both prospects and vets) go toe to toe with some of the biggest stars of the game. This post from Gregg Clifton and Henry Sanchez was a great reminder that while MLB’s new CBA is a done deal, minor leaguers face their own set of labor issues. Clifton outlines efforts by the state of California that aim to address some of these matters. Available at Jackson LewisCalifornia Workplace Law Blog.

New FOIA Guidelines Favor Transparency

As a former journalist, FOIA is a favorite topic of mine. I filed more than a few FOIA requests in my day and experienced my fair share of redactions, delays and denials. Todd Overman—with help from law clerk Allison Moors—does a great job in this post outlining a recent memorandum from Attorney General Merrick Garland in which the AG reiterated the “Presumption of Openness” policy. Overman delivers a great summary of the memo and highlights the importance of government transparency following “National Sunshine Week.” Available at Bass, Berry & SimsGovCon & Trade.

Brazilian Supreme Court Climate Litigation Day: Justices to Decide Several Climate Litigation Cases on March 30

While much of the press here in the U.S. has been focused on our own supreme court this week, this blog post looks to Brazil’s highest court. Luiz Gustavo Bezerra, Gedham Gomes and Giovanna Silva highlight what will be the Brazilian Supreme Court’s first session completely focused on climate cases. The trio of attorneys do a great job briefly summarizing the cases that are likely to be decided on. Concise and informative—you can’t get a better combo than that when it comes to law blog posts. Available at Mayer Brown’s Eye on ESG.
