Lakeview Loan Servicing Data Breach

A significant breach of data has occurred at Lakeview Loan Servicing, putting the security and privacy of their clients at risk.

Unlike similar leaks that have plagued different companies over the years, the breach suffered by Lakeview presents a far more dire situation: as a loan servicing company, Lakeview’s databases contained a treasure trove of highly-sensitive and confidential personal information, including (but not limited to) the names, addresses and social security numbers of countless clients. Making matters worse, the breach went undetected for over six weeks, meaning that the criminals involved had an extended amount of time to collect this private (and valuable) data.

Lakeview then failed to adequately handle the incident, waiting over three months to notify over 2 million impacted clients of the potential threat to their security via a vague and misleading letter that lacked the urgency befitting a disaster of this scale.

Most egregious of all, Lakeview could have greatly reduced the scope of the crisis, or prevented it outright, if they had simply adhered to the basic cybersecurity standards and practices set by the FTC.

If you use Lakeview as your loan servicer, please be aware that your private information may have been compromised. You may be receiving a letter from Lakeview Loan Servicing soon. A class-action complaint has been filed against Lakeview Loan Servicing for their failure to protect sensitive data. My office is working with Federal Litigation Counsel on this matter.
