52 years ago TAPESTRY album was released and became the soundtrack of many of our lives at the time.

It is one of the best-selling albums of all time, with over 25 million copies sold worldwide. In the United States, it has been certified Diamond by the RIAA with more than 10 million copies sold.

It received four Grammy Awards in 1972, including Album of the Year. The lead singles from the album—”It’s Too Late”/”I Feel the Earth Move”—spent five weeks at number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Easy Listening charts. In 2000 it was voted number 74 in Colin Larkin’s All Time Top 1000 Albums. In 2003, “Tapestry” was ranked number 36 on Rolling Stone list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

King wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on the album, several of which had already been hits for other artists such as Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and The Shirelles’ “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” (in 1960). Three songs were co-written with King’s ex-husband Gerry Goffin. James Taylor, who encouraged King to sing her own songs and who also played on “Tapestry”, would later have a number one hit with “You’ve Got a Friend”. Two songs were co-written with Toni Stern: “It’s Too Late” and “Where You Lead”. I think my favorite from the album is “So far away.”

Beautiful, the musical about Carole’s life will be playing at the Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre in Lincolnshire, IL from November 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023. I can’t wait to see it again. We saw it in Chicago a few years ago and it was great.

Congrats to the KC Chiefs on their Super Bowl win. It was an exciting game. And I won the game where you bet on who wins the coin toss, who will score first, what the first commercial is about. etc. I think I won 28 bucks. Beats a sharp stick in the eye as my late father was fond of saying!

Lyrics

So far away
Doesn’t anybody stay in one place anymore?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn’t help to know you’re just time away
Long ago, I reached for you and there you stood
Holding you again could only do me good
How I wish I could, but you’re so far away

One more song about movin’ along the highway
Can’t say much of anything that’s new
If I could only work this life out my way
I’d rather spend it bein’ close to you

But you’re so far away
Doesn’t anybody stay in one place anymore?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn’t help to know you’re so far away
Yeah, you’re so far away

Traveling around sure gets me down and lonely
Nothing else to do but close my mind
I sure hope the road don’t come to own me
There’s so many dreams I’ve yet to find

But you’re so far away
Doesn’t anybody stay in one place anymore?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
It doesn’t help to know you’re so far away
Yeah, you’re so far away
Hey, you’re so far away

Thank you, you were very kind
