President Elect Announces Proposed USEPA Administrator

President-elect Donald J. Trump announced on Monday, November 11, 2024, his intention to nominate former Representative Lee Zeldin, Republican of New York, as the Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, after President-elect Trump takes office in January 2025.

While the next Trump Administration and former Representative Zeldin generally are expected to pursue a ‘deregulatory agenda,’ it remains to be seen what that will mean as to USEPA’s agenda as to PFAS regulation.  It is worth noting that former Representative Zeldin voted in 2021 for two bills that supported PFAS regulation, including provisions that ended up in the National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2022 (NDAA).  His support of those bills may have been related to the occurrence of PFAS in drinking water supplies on Long Island, including in his former Congressional district.
