DeepSeek. A new open source, completely free, Gen AI engine, DeepSeek, has arisen in China, and is rivalling the Closed source USA engines from Meta, Microsoft, Google and Open AI. Solely on the basis of America First, and because I have been using Open AI’s Chat GPT, I favor the US versions. I also don’t particularly trust allegedly open source, free software from China. But, it looks like China’s Deep Seek is going to be a significant competitor for US based software. It was thought that the US had a six month head start in Gen AI; but Deep Seek may be challenging that. I am still hooked on Chat GPT, not only because it was first; but because it is US based. However, if the cost to the consumer gets out of hand, my dollars may influence my future choices. I am still a believer in US ingenuity and skill, and am rooting for the US Gen AI products. Deep Seek is very popular, however. So popular that I was unable to sign up for the service, due to the system being too busy. And the future begins.
