London, UK – May 9, 2025 – Shufti has successfully achieved iBeta Level 2 compliance for its biometric liveness detection system—marking a significant advancement in the company’s pursuit of secure, low-friction identity verification.

This achievement represents the latest stage in Shufti’s biometric development. The company had previously attained Level 1 compliance with ISO/IEC 30107-3 through its active liveness solution, which uses user interactions such as head movements to assess liveness. With Level 2, Shufti’s system has now demonstrated the ability to withstand more advanced spoofing attempts using passive liveness detection—a method that verifies a user’s presence without requiring any deliberate movement or interaction.

Testing was conducted by iBeta Quality Assurance, a globally recognized, NIST-accredited lab. iBeta evaluated Shufti’s system against the ISO/IEC 30107-3 standard for Presentation Attack Detection (PAD), which sets the benchmark for how biometric systems should detect and resist spoofing attacks such as high-resolution video replays and 3D masks. Shufti’s passive liveness solution conformed to the rigorous requirements of Level 2 testing, validating its effectiveness against these sophisticated threats.

“When it comes to identity, it’s not enough to verify someone is present—you need to know they’re real,” said Frayyam Asif, CTO at Shufti.

“Achieving Level 2 compliance with the 30107-3 standard using passive liveness proves that we can deliver robust anti-spoofing protection while making the user experience faster and more intuitive.”

This milestone builds on Shufti’s broader strategy of balancing security and usability. While many providers have passed Level 2 testing, most still rely on active liveness techniques, which introduce friction during onboarding. By contrast, Shufti’s adoption of passive liveness ensures that identity verification happens seamlessly in the background, offering greater convenience with no loss in accuracy or protection

As biometric threats evolve and compliance expectations rise, Shufti remains focused on delivering high-assurance identity verification that is secure, compliant, and built around the user experience.
