This month’s featured pets are Rackham and Abbie, the seafaring companions of Perry Cooper, Senior Legal Reporter at Bloomberg Law.
Rackham, a 9-year-old Mini Australian Shepherd, is named after the 18th-century pirate Calico Jack Rackham, who was reportedly better known for his flair than his pirating prowess. Abbie, a 2-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound, takes her name from Anne Bonny, Calico Jack’s famed compatriot and, by most accounts, the more formidable pirate of the duo.
Like their namesakes, Rackham and Abbie have embraced a life of adventure. The pair love spending time aboard Pelican, Perry’s boat, sailing the waters near their home in eastern North Carolina. While they may keep things lively on land, a day on the water has a calming effect, transforming the energetic duo into seasoned first mates.
Whether they’re keeping watch from the deck or enjoying the breeze on the open water, Rackham and Abbie prove that every good sailing crew is better with dogs on board.
