On 8 September 2026, the European Commission (Commission) adopted a Delegated Regulation amending the regulatory technical standards laid down in Delegated Regulation (EU) 2018/1108 as regards the criteria for the appointment of central contact points for crypto-asset service providers and rules on their functions. To ensure a consistent approach to the appointment of a central contact point and to determine the functions of a central contact point across all sectors, Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2018/1108 is being amended to include references to crypto-asset service providers. The Delegated Regulation enters into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

The European Banking Authority (EBA) carried out a public consultation on the draft technical standards submitted to the Commission. A consultation paper was published on the EBA’s website on 4 December 2024, and the consultation closed on 4 February 2025. The EBA issued a final report on 25 April 2025.
