  • House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Brett Guthrie and Health Subcommittee Chairman Morgan Griffith have announced an upcoming legislative hearing focused on the regulation and oversight of the U.S. food system, titled “Healthier America: Legislative Proposals on the Regulation and Oversight of Food.”
  • In announcing the hearing, the Chairmen emphasized that chronic disease is now the leading driver of health care spending in the United States and underscored Congress’s responsibility to equip Americans with the information and safeguards they need to make informed food choices. The hearing is expected to examine a wide range of legislative proposals. Across issue areas, the proposals under consideration address safety determinations, labeling requirements, supply chain oversight, inspection programs, and oversight responsibilities across federal and state authorities.
  • The Subcommittee on Health will convene the hearing on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 2:00 PM ET, in the Rayburn House Office Building. The session will be open to the public and livestreamed online at energycommerce.house.gov.
  • The hearing underscores the growing volume of proposed food‑policy reforms and reflects heightened legislative interest in revisiting the scope, structure, and execution of FDA’s food authorities.
  • Keller and Heckman will continue to monitor legislative developments related to FDA food regulation and provide updates as proposals advance.
