The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will hold its first public meeting on the recently enacted Food Safety Modernization Act next week, on Tuesday, March 29, at the White Oak campus in Silver Spring, MD. Focus of the meeting is on import safety.
Purpose of the event is to seek input on the development of import regulations and guidance in accordance with the Act. Topics will include:
— importer verification
— the voluntary Qualified Importer Program
— import certifications for food, and
— third-party accreditation
“Listening to our stakeholders is the primary purpose of this meeting,” the FDA says. “In order to meet this goal, FDA will provide multiple opportunities for individuals to actively express their views.”
Attendees are invited to make presentations, participate in breakout sessions, and submit written comments within 30 days after the meeting. The meeting will also be available over an interactive Webcast, with closed captioning.
The meeting, titled “FDA Food Safety Modernization Act: A New Paradigm for Importers,” will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.at the FDA While Oak Campus.
