A California company is recalling approximately 2,560 pounds of chopped beef products that were produced without federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced very late Friday.
The recall by Bobby Salazar’s Mexican Foods of Fowler, CA. is for Carne Asada Chopped Beef and Texture Wheat Protein in Red Hot Sauce.
It was distributed in 16 lb. cases containing 4 lb. bags. Each bag bears the establishment number “21269” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced on April 19 and May 11, 2011, and shipped to a distributor and restaurants in California.
The problem was discovered by the FSIS Alameda District Office, which determined that the company had produced the product outside of normal hours of operation when inspectors would have been present.
FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
