As reported here, the City of Boston has committed to kick-start redevelopment of the largely dormant East Boston waterfront with the construction of sewer and water lines and roadways. Questions raised by callers during the interview include:
- How much affordable housing will be built, including rentals, to provide for more diversity of age and income along the waterfront;
- Whether the City will require enough open space to prevent the privatization of the waterfront, including the possibility of an Olmstead-like East Boston greenway;
- Whether there will be an emphasis on “green buildings”; and
- Whether MassPort (a large landowner) and the BRA will be able to work together to accomplish large-scale redevelopment.
