U.B.C Food Distributors of Dearborn, MI is recalling Baraka Apricot Candies imported from Lebanon because they contain undeclared sulfites as preservatives.
According to the recall alert, the state of New York found high sulfite levels in the candies during routine product sampling. The company said they sulfites were not listed on the label due to a temporary breakdown in its production and packaging processes. Production has been suspended until the Food and Drug Administration and the company are certain the problem has been corrected.
No adverse reactions have been reported. People who have sensitivities to sulfites run the risk of serious life-threatening reaction if they consume them.
The recalled Baraka Apricot Candies, distributed nationwide to retail stores, come in a net wt. 14.08 oz. (400g) cellophane package with an expiration date of 5/2013 printed on the front panel. The UPC is 822514223719.
