The Form I-9 is being revised, again. This time, it’s to add new fields and even more instructions on how to complete the one page form. Which, by the way, will now be two pages if the changes are approved. I consistently marvel at the fact that a one-page form (soon to be two pages) requires its own manual (Handbook for Employers, M-274) as well as its own website dedicated to users understanding how to properly complete the form. The revised form I-9 is subject to notice and comment, with comments due May 29, 2012. While on the subject of the form I-9, do note that employers have a responsiblity to ensure that they are using the latest version of the form. Outdated versions should not be maintained and used for new hires.
If you are interested, I conduct a form I-9 and E-Verify training and information about the training can be found on this site.
