Public Act No. 12-116 sections 39 and 40 eliminate the requirement that professional certificate holders complete 90 CEUs every five years in order to renew their certificates, effective July 1, 2012.  Instead, effective July 1, 2013, all certified employees are required to participate in not fewer than 18 hours per year of professional development.  Professional development for administrators and Superintendents must include training in the evaluation and support of teachers under the teacher and administrator evaluation and support program for at least 15 hours every 5 years.   The full text of the Public Act can be found here.
