Public-Private Partnerships: Why They Are Growing in Popularity and Their Impact on South Florida

The most flexible relationship between the government and a private contractor is a public-private partnership, commonly referred to as a P3, in which government and the private sector both share in the risks and rewards of a project. P3s have been a popular means of structuring large public infrastructure and transportation projects abroad. The United States, during the economic downturn, witnessed a significant increase in P3 activity, as has South Florida.
