NLRB Launches Mobile Phone App for Public Education In Wake of Notice Posting Rule Defeat

The NLRB has introduced a new mobile app to educate the public about the NLRA. According to the NLRB, the app “provides employers, employees and unions with information regarding their rights and obligations under the National Labor Relations Act.” The app includes sections describing the rights enforced by the NLRB, along with contact information for NLRB regional offices. It also describes the NLRB’s representation election process.

“The National Labor Relations Act guarantees the right of workers to join together, with or without a union, to improve their working lives,” notes NLRB Chairman Mark Gaston Pearce. “The promise of the law can only be fulfilled when employers and employees understand their rights and obligations. With this app, we are using 21st Century technology to inform and educate the public about the law and their rights.” The app is available free of charge for iPhone and Android users.

This follows the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit’s rejection earlier this year of the NLRB’s 2011 workplace poster regulations. The NLRB claimed the poster was necessary because of the public’s lack of knowledge and understanding of the NLRA. (See D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals Strikes Down NLRB Posting Rule).
