On Friday, April 10th, Thomas Mooney and Henry Zaccardi will present, “Complying with FOIA: Some Helpful Hints” as both panelists and co-moderators at the FOIC Annual Conference.
This year’s conference will explore whether the FOI Act’s open meeting requirements are more of an asset or an albatross to an efficient democratic process. Panelists will examine the FOI Act’s open meetings provisions including the definition of a public meeting, the executive sessions provisions, and the meeting agenda and minutes requirements. This conference will explore how we balance transparency with public participation and efficiency highlighting some of the necessary sacrifices and valuable gains. The session will also attempt to address how we might square the Act’s provisions with modern technology such as electronic communication.
