Dickinson Law has always been committed to giving back to the community, but two attorneys took it to extreme heights this week when they rappelled down the 345-foot Financial Center building in support of Special Olympics Iowa.

It was the first time the firm has participated in the annual Over the Edge event, which raises about $75,000 to serve the nearly 3,000 athletes that Special Olympics Iowa works with each year.

Last month, Dickinson staff members identified five shareholders as candidates to rappell down the Financial Center building, which is directly across the street from the firm’s office on Walnut Street in Des Moines.

Attorneys Ron Mountsier and Bill Stiles were ultimately awarded the honor after they collected the most change in a firm-wide “penny war” that raised $715 for Special Olympics. The firm also donated $2,000 more to send the pair “Over the Edge.”

“I don’t know what it says about my position at the firm when everyone wants to toss me off a building,” joked Mountsier, “but I’m glad I got to do it. It’s for a really great cause and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
