Julie Fay Presents on Student Health Issues in Independent Schools

Fay_J_WebOn March 29, 2017, Julie Fay participated in the Nutmeg Group’s Risk Management Forum in collaboration with Fred C. Church and United Educators on the topic of legal issues surrounding student health for independent schools. The presentation included a discussion of the ADA, consent and confidential communications and the intersection of HIPAA and state law governing the disclosure of information related to minors. Her presentation concluded with recommendations for best practices with respect to accommodating students with medical needs, consent to treat forms, and policies.

Julie C. Fay represents a wide range of educational institutions, including k-12 public and independent schools and colleges and universities, in legal issues related to students, employees, governance, and policy. Her work also includes advising non-profit organizations such as camps and after school programs, in addition to serving as independent counsel for organizational ombudsman programs for institutions of higher education and other organizations. Julie is a current member of Shipman’s Management Committee and former co-chair of the School Law Practice Group.
