Best practices for adding blog content to your firm’s website

While we strongly recommend having your blog content be on a separate URL from your site’s domain, we do want to make sure you’re able to integrate blog content onto your firm’s website. To do that, we recommend using RSS feeds.

RSS feeds are simple, intuitive solutions that are easy to program into your website. Your firm’s web developers can easily utilize RSS feeds without having to build a customized solution or risk creating duplicate content that could conflict with your blog’s search ranking.

RSS feeds create a symbiotic relationship between your firm’s blogs and your firm’s site—while also maintaining your blog’s own branding and voice.

Here are some examples of methods we’ve seen clients use involving RSS feeds on firm websites.

Practice Groups

RSS feeds are available on each blog and are used for readers to easily subscribe to updates from your blog—all of this made possible with an RSS feed reader. RSS feeds are also what we use for blogs’ email newsletters.

If your firm has several practice areas, putting your blog’s RSS feed into the relevant practice group’s page can be a great way to introduce detailed and topical content to showcase the group’s expertise. We’ve noticed a lot of firms have sections for “Insights”—which include both firm-specific notices and blog posts in the same section.

Other times, firms have separate sections for blog posts specifically. If your firm has multiple blogs with LexBlog, different blogs can have their respective RSS feeds pulled into different practice group pages.

Here are a few examples of Practice Group pages that use blog feeds well.

  • SheppardMullin Labor and Employment
  • Huntonak Energy
  • Weintraub Bankruptcy Debtor/Creditor Rights and Bankruptcy Litigation

Author Profile Pages

Every blog on the LexBlog platform includes RSS feeds for the individual authors, in addition to the blog as a whole. One great application of blog RSS feeds is to pull the author RSS feeds into an author’s firm profile. If one of your bloggers writes for multiple blogs, these feeds can be pulled in for the different blogs seamlessly as well.

Here are a few examples we like for individual author firm website pages:

  • Troutman Pepper, Charles Sensiba, Partner
  • McGuire Woods, Harry Poland, Trainee Solicitor
  • Gray Reed, Brittany Blakey, Associate

Blog Sections

Another option is simply to have a dedicated page to highlight the blogs. This can be accomplished either through RSS feeds or a link to all the blogs you have, whether or not they’re on LexBlog’s platform.

Here are some more great examples:

  • Greenberg Traurig—Our Blogs
  • Squire Patton Boggs—Blogs
  • Robinson+Cole—Blog Directory

While we leave the specifics of how to utilize blog feeds on your website to your firm and your website developers, using blog content through RSS feeds is a great way to promote the great work you’re already doing  to your team, the legal industry and potential clients.

Our Success team is always available to help answer any questions you may have about this process.
