During the session, Gwen will discuss relevant federal and Connecticut statutes regarding student data privacy, data breaches, and record retention. This discussion will be especially focused on Connecticut PA 16-189 as well as the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Best practices for fulfilling a district’s responsibilities will be discussed, including reviewing a vendor’s Privacy Policy, electronic records and documents retention, and managing breaches.
