Dickinson, Mackaman, Tyler & Hagen, P.C. is pleased to announce our 2022 Summer Associate, Brennan Hook.

Brennan is currently attending Drake University Law School where she will graduate in May of 2023. She holds an undergraduate degree in economics with a minor in philosophy from the University of Iowa.

Brennan grew up not far from Des Moines in Adel where she was involved in sports, including volleyball and track.

“I decided to pursue a legal career because I enjoy problem solving,” she said. “To me, it’s very rewarding to take on a challenge and successfully work through it.”

Among her legal experience, Brennan is currently the Online Editor of the Drake Law Review. In addition, she interned at the Branstad and Olson Law Office during the summer after her first year of law school, and as an undergraduate with Kutmus, Pennington, & Hook P.C.

Brennan hopes to gain exposure to a variety of areas of law this summer, but she is most interested in all types of Transactional Law. She was also drawn to pursue an Associate position for the summer with Dickinson because of its reputation in the community as a respected law firm.

“What really sold me was the friendliness of everyone who works here,” she said. “I also knew I wanted to stay in Des Moines, because one of my favorite things about living here is that my family and friends are close by. Des Moines is small, yet there are plenty of fun things to do around the area.”

Outside of work and the classroom, Brennan has a passion for volunteering which she first acquired during her undergraduate studies.

“Over the years, I have volunteered for the Make-A-Wish Foundation through my sorority, Chi Omega, as well as Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Meals from the Heartland,” she said.

She also enjoys listening to audiobooks and podcasts, as well as being active and outdoors during the summer.

“Whether it’s running, kayaking, or playing sand volleyball, I try to make the most of nice weather.”
