Earlier this month, Law360 released the names of those chosen for the 2022 MVP awards. Of the 900 attorneys who were nominated for the honor, Law360 notes that, “[t]he attorneys chosen as Law360’s 2022 MVPs have distinguished themselves from their peers by securing hard-earned successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters and record-breaking deals.”

Though the competition was fierce, CPW’s Kristin Bryan was one of five attorneys selected as a Law360 MVP in the Cybersecurity & Privacy category. This recognition was the result of string of dismissals Kristin obtained in high-profile data privacy litigations for Vertafore, Inc. (“Vertafore”) as part of a three-partner leadership team, in addition to her role in other high-stakes privacy and cybersecurity cases in state and federal courts across the United States. One of these dismissals was recently affirmed by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in March 2022, in a decision with precedential weight involving issues of first impression among the federal Courts of Appeal. These cases involved claims that Vertafore violated the federal Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (“DPPA”), as well for negligence, injunctive relief, attorneys’ fees and other damages, and involved a data event that Vertafore disclosed in November 2020. Plaintiffs in those cases sought to certify a putative class action of 27.7 million individuals for the alleged temporary storage of Texas driver information on unsecured external servers, seeking in both instances $70 billion in liquidated statutory damages. As reported in Law360 and in other media outlets, this was a significant ruling not only for Vertafore but also defendants named in other data breach and data privacy cases.

Recognized among 25 Elite firms by Global Data Review in its 2022 edition of the GDR 100, Squire Patton Boggs has a team of over 60 partners and associates in its Data Privacy, Cybersecurity & Digital Assets Practice. It advises clients on a diverse range of local, regional and international issues in both developed and emerging markets, operating under various data protection, privacy and cybersecurity regimes.

Notably, Law360 also selected Squire Patton Boggs attorney Stephen Anway as a 2022 MVP in International Arbitration.

Congratulations to both Kristin and Stephen on well-deserved recognitions!
