The CBA’s irreverent musical comedy revue returns to the stage for its 101st Annual Bar Show. More than 50 CBA attorneys will perform in the annual rousing production that parodies local and national political figures in this year’s show, “Bar to the Future.” No one is off limits in this irreverent production that features skits and musical numbers lampooning politicians, show business, and public figures who made news and headlines over the past year.
The show is written and performed by a cast and crew of lawyers who also have backgrounds in music or theater and are supported by a professional band, director, choreographer, sets, lights, and projections. Many cast members are Chicago and community theatre performers, classical musicians, and opera singers.
Marty McFlaw will take audience members “Bar to the Future” with skits featuring Donald J. Trump, Joe Biden, J.D. Vance, Nancy Pelosi, and Robert Kennedy Jr. No one will be off limits during hysterical musical numbers like “Retirementville” (tune of Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville) about what retirement may look like for Biden, Pelosi, Sanders, and McConnell or “Tip Me, Tip Me” (tune of ABBA’s Gimme, Gimme) about the tip everybody trend.
The CBA’s famous “Bar Show,” formerly known as “Christmas Spirits,” has entertained audiences since 1923 when a few members decided to liven up an annual yuletide dinner with some comedy. What began as a single sketch has become a full-blown musical revue, all performed and written by a group of talented Chicago legal community members.
Tickets for this year’s show are on sale now. There will be a discounted dress rehearsal on Wednesday, January 8, at 7:00 p.m. and regular performances on Friday, January 10, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 13, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Go to http://www.barshow.org for tickets or further information.
