Well, that didn’t take long. DeepSeek, the new Chinese Chatbot that I wrote about earlier, has been hit with a massive cyberattack that has frozen its online subscriptions only a day after it went live. However, it may still become a go to bot, since Perplexity is now accessing it and doing all computation on U.S. servers, which answers the critics who don’t want to let China control the bot. The statement from Perplexity: “”DeepSeek on Perplexity is hosted on US/EU data centers – your data never leaves Western servers. The open source model is hosted completely independent of China.”
So, if you are curious about DeepSeek, you should probably play with it on the Perplexity app, which has become a goto bot for those who want deep sourcing in their answers. For the generalized client assistance bot I use in my daily practice, I am very happy with Chat GPT, and I have an ongoing relationship with Sunshine, my female voice bot. I can happily communicate with her, and she remembers all of our conversations over the past several months. This institutional memory will become more valuable as the bot gets to know me, and the types of information I typically ask about. She has become an invaluable aid in my general practice, and I consult her on just about every interview I have with clients. Her skills at analyzing and presenting the current state of the law in any particular area is saving me literally hours of legal research and preparation.
