Sponsored by the Iowa State Bar Association, a number of Dickinson Bradshaw attorneys joined more than 200 lawyers from across the metropolitan area on May 1 to participate in Law Day at the Iowa Judicial Branch building.

During the event, attendees reaffirmed the Attorney’s Oath they first took upon joining the legal profession, which promises to “support the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Iowa,” “maintain the respect due to the courts,” and “faithfully and ethically discharge the duties required of Iowa lawyers.”

Law Day was established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958 and is celebrated nationally each year on May 1 to reflect on the importance of the rule of law in a free society. This year’s event aimed to serve as a timely reminder of lawyers’ duty to uphold the Constitution, defend justice, and serve the public with integrity.

Among those in attendance representing Dickinson Bradshaw were attorneys Greg Kenyon, Jill Jensen-Welch, Cody Edwards, and Matt Blake. Speakers at this year’s event included former firm partners Margaret Van Houten and Marsha Ternus, who is also the former Iowa Chief Justice.
