Dickinson, Bradshaw, Fowler & Hagen, P.C. is pleased to welcome our 2025 Summer Associates, (L-R): Abby Crabtree, Isaac Strohman, and Maureen Wainwright.

Abby Crabtree

Abby is currently attending the University of Iowa College of Law where she will graduate with the class of 2026. She also holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in Ethics and Public Policy with a certificate in Sustainability.

As a native Iowan, Abby is originally from Dubuque where she lived on her grandparents’ dairy farm for her first seven years of life. She then moved to a small town in Dubuque County and later graduated from Western Dubuque High School.

It was her early upbringing in farming that planted the seed for Abby to later seek out a legal career.

“I have a strong interest in giving back to the community and serving Iowans. With my interest in the environment and agriculture, I knew my skills would best fit within the legal profession,” she said. “My legal work and law school career have been incredibly rewarding, but above all else, I enjoy working with people and working towards a solution to the problems that impact their lives.”

Once she becomes an attorney, Abby would like to practice environmental law, administrative law, and agricultural law. She is interested in trying new areas, as well, which is one of reasons she chose Dickinson Bradshaw for an internship this summer.

“The firm has a strong reputation of dedication to the state and local community, which I value as an Iowan,” Abby said. “The broad range of practice areas allows me to pursue my interests and explore new areas of law. My interest in the firm was truly solidified during my interviews, where everyone I met was personable, helpful, and incredibly skilled in their field.”

While completing her education, Abby has held a number of leadership positions at Iowa Law, where she currently is the President of Graduate and Professional Student Government, and a Note and Comment Editor for the Journal of Corporation Law.

While pursuing her legal training, Abby served as a Judicial Intern last summer for Judge Donovan Frank for the United States District Court, District of Minnesota; as a legal assistant at Herbold Law PC in Iowa City from 2022 to 2023; Secretary of the Environmental Law Society from 2024 to 2025; and as a volunteer with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services.

Outside of work, Abby is busy preparing for her upcoming wedding to her fiancé, Spencer, who is a high school English teacher. She also enjoys hiking, gardening, and exploring art museums and historic buildings.

Isaac Strohman

Isaac attends Drake University Law School and will also graduate in 2026. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Iowa, and a master’s degree in public administration from Drake.

Isaac grew up in Ames, Iowa, and prior to starting law school, he worked in banking and state government for several years. Most recently, he was a Credit Union Examiner for the Iowa Division of Credit Unions, and an Investor Reporting Analyst for U.S. Bank in Chicago.

While working in the financial industry, Isaac decided to pivot and pursue a legal career as a way to advocate for others and solve their legal issues. He plans to practice in banking and finance law, employment law, and litigation once he becomes an attorney.

“My past roles, including as a credit union regulator, provided me with a unique perspective of how banks and credit unions operate within their regulatory framework, along with valuable professional experience will help me in my future role as an attorney,” Isaac said.

Isaac and his wife, Kelsey, moved to Des Moines and settled in the Drake neighborhood, where they currently reside with their two daughters, Ava (8) and Quinn (4). In 2023, Isaac began law school at Drake.

“When I was considering changing career paths and going to law school, my parents encouraged me to do so, and my wife has been very supportive,” he said.

While attending Drake Law, Isaac was a summer law clerk for RSH Legal in 2024, and a legal intern in the Iowa Senate for Senator Izaah Knox. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Drake Journal of Agricultural Law.

Isaac was initially drawn to Dickinson Bradshaw for an internship this summer because of his familiarity with the reputation of its attorneys.

“Ultimately, I knew the firm had a few practice areas that matched my interests,” Isaac said. “I quickly noticed the professionalism and respectfulness in the office, which I appreciate.”

In his spare time, Isaac enjoys spending time with his family and cat, Annie, listening to music, visiting coffee shops, seeing movies at the Varsity Cinema, watching sports, reading, and participating in politics.

Maureen Wainwright

Maureen attends the University of Iowa College of Law and will graduate in 2026. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

Maureen grew up in the Des Moines metropolitan area in Beaverdale and Windsor Heights and graduated from Dowling Catholic High School. As a competitive swimmer from a young age, she swam at Dowling and later went on to compete on the women’s swim team at St. Olaf as an undergraduate for four years.

Because Maureen has always enjoyed reading and writing, she decided to pursue a career in the law so she could put these skills to good use. “I also wanted to serve others in my community, and the legal profession seemed like a natural fit,” she said.

She is currently exploring which areas of law to focus on once she becomes an attorney, but she is enjoying working on projects related to bankruptcy and tax law. She also has experience working in immigration law, specifically for asylum, VAWA, and U Visa applicants; and volunteer experience working with Indian Law and providing legal services to indigenous groups in Iowa.

Maureen was first drawn to Dickinson Bradshaw because of its community focus.

“I loved growing up in the Des Moines area, and I was excited about the opportunity to work at a law firm that is so deeply connected to the local community,” Maureen said. “Additionally, Dickinson Bradshaw’s wide array of legal practice areas allows me to explore potential legal fields by working directly with attorneys who are well known for their expertise and dedication to their clients.”

While pursuing her law degree, she has served as a Citizen Lawyer Volunteer at Iowa Legal Aid from 2023 to 2025, a Summer Law Clerk at Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid in 2024, and a Svoboda Legal Scholar at the St. Thomas College of Law Interprofessional Center in 2022. Currently, she is a Note and Comment Editor for the Journal of Corporation Law.

Outside the office, Maureen enjoys spending time with her boyfriend who lives in St. Paul, Minnesota. They originally met on the swim team at St. Olaf College. She also loves being outdoors, visiting coffee shops, spending time with friends and family, and strolling the Des Moines farmers market. She remains a dedicated swimmer and is an avid runner. Last year Maureen ran the Des Moines half marathon and has a goal of running the Des Moines marathon within the next few years.
