14 Botulism Cases Allegedly Linked To Milton Botox Spa

As many people know, botox injections are very popular these days, sought by many for cosmetic reasons to flatten wrinkles, smooth the skin and in general provide a more youthful facial appearance. It does this by temporarily paralyzing certain muscles that contract to form lines and wrinkles in the skin.  It’s also occasionally used, non-cosmetically, to treat migraine headaches.  Usually, injecting botox is a safe procedure, but for obvious safety reasons, by law these injections must be provided by a licensed health care professional.

The spa that these botulism cases have been allegedly been connected with reportedly occurred at Rodrigo Beauty, in Milton.  The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) first reported the growing cluster of cases, announcing that they were linked to cosmetic botulinum toxin (botox.)  As of this post, the number of suspected cases stands at 14. As I said, botox spas can be found across Massachusetts, but under Massachusetts law, providers administering botox injections are required to be licensed medical professionals, and so far at least, it doesn’t appear that the owner of this spa holds such a license.  Instead, several media have reported that he is instead, a licensed aesthetician, with a nursing assistant certificate.  If true, that is legally inadequate to administer botox injections.
