Medical device manufacturers face mounting pressure to deliver innovative products while reducing costs and improving margins. To meet these challenges, many original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) outsource critical operations such as manufacturing, packaging, and distribution. This shift allows OEMs to streamline resources, eliminate factories and equipment, and focus on innovation, while contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs) step in as essential partners in the production process.
As CMOs play a central role in device development and commercialization, the importance of building strong, sustainable relationships cannot be overstated. These partnerships often begin with trust, as OEMs and CMOs exchange confidential information, share proprietary technology, and even pool patent rights. Successful relationships can strengthen market position, accelerate development, and reduce costs.
