Six cruise passengers were arrested for outstanding warrants and probation violations by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) at Port Canaveral on Friday, July 17, 2026. The news was first reported by the BCSO via its Facebook page.

Martell Murray, 24, and Kenderia Burney, 24, both of Atlanta, were arrested before boarding their cruise. Deputies said Murray was wanted for allegedly violating the terms of his release on pending murder charges, while Burney was wanted on a probation-violation warrant. Both were booked into the Brevard County Jail, where they were held without bond.

Deputies also arrested Veronica Hamlet, 38, of Tampa, on a failure-to-appear warrant, and James Brewton, 66, of Allendale, South Carolina, on a violation-of-probation warrant. Brevard jail records show Hamlet was booked on July 17 and released the next day on a $1,000 bond. Brewton was released after posting bond, which was set at $500. Authorities did not say whether the two were traveling together or embarking on or disembarking from their cruise.

Separately, two cruise passengers were detained after disembarking from their cruise for violating their felony probation terms. The unnamed passengers were not allowed to leave the country because of their probation. BCSO stated the passengers “will be enjoying a stay at their local lodge once their respective Probation Officers complete the necessary paperwork!!”

The BCSO did not identify the ships or cruise lines involved. CruiseMapper’s Port Canaveral schedule shows that Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas, Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wish, and Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Glory were in port on July 17.

The BCSO ended its post with a warning to travelers to Brevard County, stating, “Whether you’re from Florida or Alaska, if you come to Brevard County and break the law…or in this case have a warrant…you better believe that we will lock you up!!”

Passenger arrests at ports are not new. In 2019, we wrote about an FBI arrest involving a Norwegian Sun passenger at the end of a Bahamas cruise, another case in which a cruise ended with law enforcement waiting at the terminal.
