IAEA project to look at edible insect safety

A project has been created to assess the safety of edible insects and hazards associated with related production and processing practices.

The five-year coordinated research project will also look at other novel foods.

The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) project will help countries assess food safety risks linked to alternative food and feed sources and understand how different production and processing practices influence these risks. It will use nuclear and other technologies to analyze chemical, biological, and physical hazards.
