CBIA Proposes Tentative Map Extension Bill for 2013

With the past few years of the economic downturn and the lack of a demand for housing or commercial space, many developers have chosen not to develop their existing projects.  However, with signs of positive growth the California Building Industry Association (CBIA)  is proposing legislation for 2013 to extend the expiration date of tentative maps.  The CBIA’s proposed bill would extend the expiration date for subdivision maps that would expire before January 1, 2016 for a period of 24 months.  If this proposed bill is not passed, these existing maps, without further action, will begin to expire; requiring that new entitlements be approved which are not guaranteed, and may require additional CEQA and other regulatory compliance.  For more information on how you can help support the CBIA’s proposed legislation, visit CBIA’s report on the Tentative Map Exension Bill for 2013.

If you own property with a current tentative or vesting tentative map or other entitlements, particularly those that are about to expire, please contact Donna Holtz to discuss your existing entitlements and how the proposed new legislation may affect the expiration dates of your entitlements.  Our firm is also available to discuss other entitlement, CEQA or development related issues.
