Julio Mendez, Ph.D., is a technology specialist in the Litigation Department, and a member of the Life Sciences Patent practice.

Prior to joining Proskauer, Julio was a patent agent at Cooley, LLP in the Patent Prosecution and Litigation Department, where he focused on prosecuting applications in numerous fields of biotechnology. He was also engaged in the assessment of various intellectual property initiatives of several inventors.

Julio has extensive experience in biomedical research. During his time at Yale University as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, he was involved in several research initiatives, including a project that led to forming a compound integral to submitting an application of an investigational new drug to the FDA. Following this fellowship, Julio furthered his involvement in promoting biomedical research as an intern in the Office of Collaborative Research at Yale, where he formulated strategies for intellectual property and assessed discoveries of the research faculty. As a graduate researcher at the University of Connecticut, Julio identified a stem cell, and a population of endothelial cells, a discovery with the potential to assist in the treatment of skeletal muscle disease.

In addition to conducting complex research, Julio spent time as a lab technician at Crompton Corporation, and an Intern at Unilever. He also taught as an adjunct professor of Biology at his alma mater of Sacred Heart University.
