In the sole warning letter posted on its website this past week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned Bridgewater Dairy of Montpelier, OH, that it was found to be in violation of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act after inspections at the dairy operation conducted Dec. 3, 6 and 9, 2013. 
On Feb. 18, 2014, FDA’s District Director for the Cincinnati District Paul Teitell wrote to the dairy to inform the owner and manager that FDA was citing Bridgewater Dairy for the sale of adulterated food. In the letter, Teitell stated, “Our investigation also found that you hold animals under conditions that are so inadequate that medicated animals bearing potentially harmful drug residues are likely to enter the food supply.” He warned the operation of, “… failure to take appropriate measures to assure assigned timeframes for withdrawal are met and no illegal drug residues occur in any food-producing animal subject to extralable treatment” and for failing to maintain complete treatment records. FDA requires a written response from all recipients of warning letters within 15 days of receipt of the letter.
