Boy low resAddiction is one of the most prevalent and costly issues affecting businesses today. Yet the strategies employed by most human resource professionals have changed very little since the Drug Free Workplace Act was signed into law in 1988. Human resource professionals will have an opportunity to hear from national and local experts who will deliver cutting-edge information and practical tools to address this significant problem.

The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, SHRM SWFL and the Bonita Springs Area Chamber of Commerce will present “New Strategy and Tactics for HR Professionals to Address the Largest Threat to Workplace Health” on August 11, 2015 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Florida Gulf Coast University in Edwards Hall 112 in Fort Myers. Patrick Nolan, anchor and journalist from WFTX-TV, will provide opening remarks and introductions. Cost for the full day is $25 and includes breakfast and lunch. Attendees will receive up to eight certification credits through HRCI and SHRM and a newly released research update will also be distributed to the attendees upon completion of the program.

Speakers and Topics:

  • Suzanne Boy (President of SHRM SWFL and Shareholder at Henderson Franklin) and Patrick Krill (Director of the Legal Professionals Program at Hazelden in Center City) will facilitate a lively panel discussion addressing the legal ramifications of what can and cannot be done in the workplace to supportively confront troubled employees, encourage them to seek help, and monitoring progress upon their return. These tactics are essential to every human resource professional as they adopt a strategy to address this issue in the workplace.
  • Jeffrey Mangrum (veteran keynote speaker at National SHRM) brings his innovative presentation, “The Hero’s Journey: Supporting Your Troubled Employee for Success.”
  • Lisa Hardy (Vice President of CorpCare) will provide tactics to help you maximize the ROI on your EAP and will discuss “Employee Assistance Programs: Are You Getting the Most Bang for Your Buck.”
  • Janelle Wesloh (Executive Director of Recovery Management for the Hazelden Foundation) will present, “Recovery in the Workplace: New Tools for a New Millennium.” Janelle will demonstrate how advances in treatment, technology and unique partnerships between companies and providers have dramatically increased positive outcomes.
  • Lisa Fasanella (a licensed mental health counselor) has joined Community Health Partners to assist members in working though issues related to depressed mood, anxiety, relational issues, grief, loss and other common stressors to get them on the road to recovery. In her presentation, “Emotional Wellness: On Site and On Target,” she will demonstrate how bringing services to the workplace increases utilization and positive outcomes.
