Welcome back to The Week in Weed, your weekly update on events in the world of marijuana.  See the links below for news on quantifying the impact of the industry on the economy; the vote in Pennsylvania that has that state poised to legalize medical marijuana; and a bill in Vermont that could make that state the first to legalize recreational marijuana by legislative action, rather than voter initiative.

  • Marijuana Economy May Hit $44 Billion by 2020 (Yahoo! Finance: 17 March 2016)

The big news this week is that the marijuana industry’s impact on the economy has now been quantified.  This report from Yahoo! Finance summarizes the report from Marijuana Business Daily and offers a interview with one of their reporters on this news.

  • Pa. House votes to legalize medical marijuana (Philadelphia Inquirer: All News, 16 March 2016)

HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to legalize medical marijuana, ending a debate that languished years and all but ensuring Pennsylvania will become the 24th state to pass such a law.

  • Vermont legislature on track to be first in U.S. to legalize marijuana (Reuters UK: Health, 14 March 2016)

MONTPELIER, Vt. (Reuters) – Liberal-leaning Vermont could become the first U.S. state to legalize recreational marijuana use through legislation, rather than by voter initiative.

Something we missed that everyone needs to know?  Please share in the comments.
